Week 24 and Lisa is back soon from Turkey

Monday, June 15th, 2009

Well, it has been a long time since I left Lisa as she travelled on and she has had a grand trip.
A one chance in a lifetime trip and she made the most of it. As per my site; she was here, there, everywhere.

Here are some pics of her trip. They are spectacular and intriguing, with some of her art installations to dwell upon.

We will be sad that her travel stories will end but we are very happy to have her home soon.

Arriving at the hostel, worn out.

Bangkok is still one of the biggest and busiest places I’ve been.
You have to love the colours and the many different flavours of this city.

Short stop in Krabi

Monday, February 9th, 2009

Here we are in Krabi for a couple of days before flying on to Bangkok.

Sorry, no Lisa Trip Report as she is sick.

Fifth week in Koh Jum

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

Still here on Koh Jum, this is the place you want to go.

Only thing is they just put in a submarine transmission line to Koh Phi Phi and it runs over this island. New distribution poles everywhere so it is only a matter of time before it gets very developed here.

Hanging out on the beach playing volleyball every sunset, busted a toe on some coral.
Had a great night horse back riding with a seafood feast afterwards.
Who would of guessed Lisa gets to ride a horse for the first time on a beach in Thailand!

And the sunsets get better.

Fourth week in Koh Phi Phi

Monday, January 26th, 2009

Here we are in luxury, but something smells around here.
So much devopment that you smell sewer everywhere.

But Koh Phi Phi Le is still as beautiful as ever.

Second Week on Koh Lipe

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

Weather has been Hot!
Mountain Resort is a ‘Wind Tunnel’, loud at night.

p1120124

But surfs up due to the wind, supposed to be from a cold front from Siberia, freezing in Bangkok! Hard to believe.

First week on Koh Libong

Wednesday, January 7th, 2009

Well, all I can say is “Wow!”.
This is one sweet place to hang out. Water is warm, people are friendly, and the food is fantastic.

Libong Island 2009 Tour – Lisa & Ty

Here we go abroad…

We’re starting to get things ready to go, show you some of the things we’re bringing along.
Lisa is going to be gone for awhile so she needs some tools that are light.

A digital sound recorder. Olympus 4100. Inexpensive but you get much better sound recording than the Flip or the cameras.
Flip Video, easy, pocketable, and does very decent video recording in even low light situations, plus….
You can take it underwater, is this going to get interesting?

The Olympus 1030 SW is one tough camera. The Shockproof, Waterproof, Freezeproof and Dustproof (Lisaproof) design gives us the confidence to take this camera anywhere and shoot in nearly any condition.
The Dell ‘Mini’ netbook. Hey, do I want to lug around and maybe drop my work laptop in the drink?

This one does it all and it’s fast enough to be bearable. All flash drive harddrive so bang away. Blogs, emails are easy with the wireless. Skype away with the bluetooth. Office docs, sound / video editing, edit digital images,
this Mighty Mini can handle it.

The new 3M MPro110. See The Big Picture;
It projects images up to 50 inches, yet fits in the palm of your hand.
This powerful, portable, pocket-able projector turns the world into your personal theatre because it makes any room into a projection room.

And, away we go….
the itinerary;

Leave YVR Vancouver Dec 31 2008 13:20. Transfer HKG Hong Kong Jan 01 2009 20:45. Arrive BKK Bangkok, Sandy Int. airport Jan 02 2009 00:01.

Jan 02 2009 – Stay for a nap at an airport hotel close to the Don airport. Xen Suites Bangkok, 99-401-486 Soi Chaeng Wattana 10, formerly Quality Suites Bangkok, Bangkok 10210, Thai.

We’re thinking that we skip touring Bangkok, save it for the end of the trip, and go straight to the beach. Trang bound, straight from the Don airport, @ 9:15 and on the beach by lunchtime sounds much more appealing, and not much more than the train. From the Trang airport we cut across by Tuk-tuk to the minibus station to go on to the Had Yao Ban Chao Mai Pier. It is about 2 km from the train station area on the main road North to Krabi. The actual destination for the minibus is Ban Chao Mai which is the fishing village which is also the departure point for Koh Libong. We had originally thought about taking the overnight train from Bangkok to Trang, leaves at about 8:00 pm but we can’t wait to dip our toes into the waters of the Andaman Sea.

the fishing village, nice bougainvellia

Jan 02 2009 We will try to gain a berth on a long boat to Koh Libong Island @ Had Yao Ban Chao Mai Pier; we hope to get taken directly to the beach where we are staying. Should take about an hour.

I can see the Island from here…

Jan 02 2009 If the boat can’t get us to our beach, from Maphrao Village Pier we take a motorcycle taxi about 7km along the dusty road to the Le Dugong Resort, our planned initial home base for these travels. Leave us a note here until Jan 16 2009. Unless of course we find an adventure out to another string of Islands…

A nice hut on the beach

All the comforts of home, bamboo style…

Jan 02 2009 And here the adventure begins…

Simon P and his old (grade) school buddy from KL may be hangin out here with us for a couple of days.

The Libong Island 2009 Tours

We have decided on two separate side tours, one to the North and one to the South. Go for a ride up and down the coast to …

Tiger Line Ferries is our best bet going up and down the coast.

*Lisa is planning the Southern Tour and Ty is planning the Northern Tour*

Libong Island Southern Tour

Lisa’s planned tour, Jan 16 2009 to Jan 23 2009.

Koh Lipe and Koh Adang are a pair of islands far out in the Andaman Sea
in the south of Thailand. Although separated by just a kilometre of
shallow water, they are worlds apart.

here we go…

Libong Island Northern Tour

Ty’s planned tour, Jan 23 2009 to Feb 11 2009.
Tiger Line all the way from Koh Lipe to Koh Phi Phi.
Hang out on the deck and watch the Islands slide by.

Koh Phi Phi Island is one beautiful place. You have to stop if you are ever near.

Jan 26 2009 – For Chinese New Year on Phi Phi Island we are going all out, splurging to stay at the Bayview Resort for 4 nights. Arriving Jan 24, checking out Jan 28, 2009. The ferry leaves Koh Lipe at ten in the morning and arrives in Koh Phi Phi at 5 in the evening.

Phi Phi party on…

Koh Jum Island may be our home base for this Northern Tour. Coconut Green View Bungalows may be the place. As per picture below, ‘Which way to the beach?’

This may be our home base, on the beach, water’s warm…

Hang out here for awhile…

Krabi, you have to look around here.
Wat Tham Seua, or Tiger Cave Temple. Set in a beautiful forest, the temple is in fact a famous meditation centre. You can walk around the nature trail, visit the Tiger Cave and, for those who are fit enough, climb the 1237 stairs to the mountain-top shrine, the site is only a few kilometres outside of Krabi Town.

Might stay @at Good Dream Guesthouse, 83 Uttarakit Road, krabidream@gmail.com , fax: 75622993. Centrally located guest house with great food and drink and free Internet / Wi-Fi for guests. ~20-450 baht.
